You got called a racist? You will survive.
I wanted to take a moment here and remind people that when someone calls you a racist that it doesn’t make the sun explode. It might feel that way but you will survive. Proof of that is the fact that even hardcore proud racists live among us instead of being shunned to a cave in the wilderness. The sad fact is, you can be a racist and with very few exceptions your life will progress uninterrupted. So stop acting like a victim about it.
And as much as POC get together online and share frustrations and talk about revolution, the very fact that there hasn’t been a mass minority killing spree of known KKK members shows that’s not the revolution we want.
This is our revolution.
Look white people. Racist is a harsh word for a harsh problem. I know it feels bad when people call you names. But this name means, “You are oppressing me.” So instead of being defensive about it, STOP.
Just for a moment.
Stop and THINK about what POC are saying. If you won’t even CONSIDER for ONE MOMENT that they MIGHT have a point then at the very least, you are inconsiderate of our feelings. And that inconsideration is part of the very problem. So congratulations! Even if you were right originally, you’re a racist anyway because you ignored my human experience.
And being paralyzed by your guilt is kinda like running me over with your car and then weeping behind the steering wheel. If you really feel guilty then you owe it to your own integrity to make an effort to be a better well-rounded person. And it’s going to be HARD. REALLY HARD. Because it is the complete opposite of the system you are accustomed to. And you won’t get special cookies each time you get it right. Because you shouldnt be doing it for my approval. You are doing it to be someone of worth. And you will fuck up. Probably a lot in the beginning but less as you learn and grow. When that happens you will correct it as best you can because you except nothing less from yourself.
